Jin Kobayashi
Born 1958. Inspired by Koichi Saito's The Promise (1972), which he saw in his second year of junior high school, he aspired to become a film director, and in 1976, in his third year at Itsukaichi Metropolitan High School, he presented his first 8 mm film The Traveller at the school festival. Later, his film Glass Ticket (1977), made as a high school graduation commemoration, was selected for the first Pia Film Festival (PFF). In the same year, he started working at the Itsukaichi Town Hall (now Akiruno City Hall), but continued to make 8 mm films, releasing one new film a year, and has participated in the annual Akiruno Film Festival (then called the Itsukaichi Film Festival) since 1985, not as an official function but as a personal member of the festival's executive committee since its first edition. In 1989, the festival organising committee members formed the film production group "Itsukaichi Kinema-dan", and with the help of cinematographer Kawamata Takashi and actor Omi Toshinori, formed the first 16 In 1993, he directed his first 35 mm film, From a Tiny Stream, which was released in theatres in 1995. In 2011, he completed his magnum opus Itsukaichi Monogatari (Tales of Itsukaichi), the culmination of three years of production. Itsukaichi Monogatari is a collaboration between actors Kumiko Endo, Reiko Kusamura, Junichi Inoue, Ken Tanaka, Toshinori Omi, Hiroshi Fuse and Yoko Natsuki and the citizens' organisation Itsukaichi Kinema-dan, and was released in theatres in October 2011. He is still an active Akiruno City Hall employee.
